Belgica reacts to De Lima after getting human rights award: Human rights ng mga drug lords?

After Senator Leila de Lima awarded “highest human rights honor” of the Liberal International (LI), for former Manila Councillor Greco Belgica, the award is just nothing and ironic.

In the interview of Beligca in Radyo Pilipinas, he said that the members of the LI are former colleague of de Lima when she was still in Commission of Human Rights (CHR).

"It is a small group of people declared themselves to be become leaders of a group that they’ve organized, pero malaki ang boses sa media,” he said.

Belgica questioned why de Lima was called a “flag-bearer of human rights in the Philippines” when the Senator is currently detained due to drug charges.

“It really means nothing," Belgica said.

“So it’s really means nothing kasi… sinasabi nila si Senator Leila De Lima is a human rights protector when she in charge for drug trafficking. So anong human rights ang pino-protektahan nya? Human rights ng mga mga drug lords? That’s really weird and that’s really bad,” Belgica said.

“It should be nothing, how can she be a genuine human rights fighter when she was politicking, she is protecting the criminals and the politicians when she was in power?” he added.

Belgica said that the decision of the LI was "premature" because of de Lima's drug charges.

"So, wala po yan. Dapat e-expose natin ang katotohanan," he said.

Meanwhile, in the statement released of LI, they chose de Lima to receive the Prize for Freedom award during their 199th executive committee meeting in South Africa.

“Politicians from around the world voted to award Liberal International’s highest human rights honor – the Prize for Freedom – to imprisoned Philippines political prisoner, Senator Leila de Lima,” it said.

“Senator De Lima, a vocal and ardent critic [of] the Philippines authoritarian president Rodrigo Duterte’s so-called ‘war of drugs’, has been held in pre-trial detention on politically motivated charges since February 2017,” it added.
