Army Captain killed in Marawi by saving the lives of his comrades

A viral story of a soldier who died just to save his comrades against the Maute Group have made the netizens cried a river for it's heartbreaking story.

The story was delivered by his fellow soldier. It happened last September, the 11th Scout Ranger Company, led by Captain Rommel Sandoval, a commander face a dangerous mission.

They were on the precarious mission to retake one of the few stronghold of the enemy and trying to push back towards Lanao Lake, the 5-story Landbank building was crucial for the military to take over.

Although it was very dangerous, Sandoval and his men were determine to go forward. They were able to cleared the four floors but had a hard time on the first floor.

In the wake of dropping explosives to drive away any terrorists stowing away underneath, 3 officers slipped to the main floor before acknowledging it was still excessively hazardous.

Corporal Jayson Mante, was hit on his hand in the gunfire. Instead of backing down, Mante continued to fight back.

That's the time Sandoval sent 4 troops to attempt and recuperate Mante and soldiers tried their best to save him.

Meanwhile, 2nd Lieutenant Arvie Ventura recalled that Sandoval went down to assess the situation and Sandoval found Mante was not moving.

“He didn’t hesitate. When he got there, he checked Corporal Mante’s pulse, and as he tried to pull him to safety, the enemy spotted him. His first hit was on his side.”

Ventura said that even Sandoval was hit, he still fight back. But unfortunately, he was on his neck, then his cheek, which is fatal.

Up to his final minutes, Sandoval went on top of Mante's body to cover him from getting hit.

“He chose to take all the bullets for his troops.”

When they recovered their body, they found the bullets were lodged on his body, shielding Mante.

Sandoval was buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani or The Heroes’ Cemetery last September 15 and it was filled with tears.

“This was not the first time he risked his life for us,” Ventura said as he recounting his memories with Sandoval.

“He cooked for us, and made sure we ate together. That was the way we bonded as a company. He always wanted to see our troops together, as a whole. He didn’t want us to be individualistic," he said.

“He inspired all of us with his actions,” he added.

Also, Sandoval has a call sign "Daredevil", was the highest ranking military officer killed in Marawi City.
