Customs broker clears Paolo Duterte, Mans Carpio's name in drug smuggling links

Customs broker Mark Taguba cleared the name of Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and his brother-in-law Manases Carpio over the alleged accusation that they were involved in the BOC shabu shipment on Friday.

He said he never dragged nor testify that the presidential son and Atty. Mans Carpio were involved in the P6.4 billion shabu shipment or the "tara" system in Customs. He said it was just a 'fake news.'

"I had never testified, nor will I ever testify that Vice-Mayor Paolo Duterte and/or Atty. Manse Carpio were involved in the shipment of illegal drugs into the country. Neither have I testified, nor will I ever testify that the aforementioned individuals were involved in the 'tara system' that was in-place at the Bureau of Customs," Taguba said.

Taguba also apologized to Paolo Duterte and Carpio for the name dropping. It was actually brought up by some people involved who paid grease money to the customs.

"I am making this statement to clear Vice-Mayor Paolo Duterte and Atty. Manse Carpio from any involvement in the shipment of illegal drugs into the country, and any anomalies in the Bureau of Customs," Taguba said.

"I also hereby apologize to Vice-Mayor Duterte, Atty. Carpio and to the first family for the proliferation of fake news arising out of my testimony at the senate yesterday," he added.

Paolo Duterte and Carpio names linked when the Davao Group mentioned. He cited that he already said before during the Senate hearing that it was just a hearsay.

"As I had repeatedly stated before Congress and the Senate, the alleged involvement of the aforementioned individuals are hearsay in nature," Taguba said.

Senator Trillanes was trying to put connections between the customs issue against younger Duterte and Carpio.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Duterte denied his involvement and called it hearsay.

While, Mans Carpio said, "Senator Trillanes is imputing malice in saying that my appearance before the BOC is because of smuggling. He is just a desperate rumor monger who happens to be a senator."
