Palace hits back at Aquino after questioning Duterte's drug war: The results speak for themselves

Former President Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday stated that President Rodrigo Duterte war on drugs did not prosper.

"Parang wala yatang nangyari," Aquino said when asked about the illegal drug campaign.

After Aquino's comment, the MalacaƱang also responded to it and said that his statements was a 'jaded cynicism.'

"Comments like the above from past leaders imply a jaded cynicism borne of a history of political opportunism," Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said.

Abella said the results of war on drug speak for themselves as the surrendeeres reached 1.3 million drug suspects.

"One, the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign resulted in the unprecedented voluntary surrender of more than 1.3 million drug personalities," Abella said.

Abella cited the numbers of the drug personalities that arrrested in the first year of Duterte administration compared to the past administration.

"Two, 96, 703 drug personalities have been arrested in the first year of the present administration’s anti-drug campaign compared to 77,810 drug personalities arrested in the six years of the previous administration," he added.

About 2,445.80 kilograms of methamphetamine or shabu have been seized during Duterte's first year in office compared to Aquino's six-year record of 3,219.07 kilograms.

"Much ground has been gained in the campaign against hard drug traffickers and violators, but the mission is to end the demand, production, distribution and sale of illegal drugs," Abella said.

Many critics including several countries condenmed President Duterte war on drugs and accused him of the extrajudicial killings.
