Raphael Cervantes arrested over killing thousands of mangroves, corals to build subdivision in Palawan—Gina Lopez
Environment Secretary Gina Lopez on Wednesday announced that Raphael Cervantes has arrested after destroying the 5 hectares mangrove just to build a subdivision in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
Lopez said that what he did was 'unacceptable' and it was also unforgivable for not just killing the mangroves but also the coral reefs.
The area where it was operated is a government property. Lopez said that with the help of the police, army, and DENR Usec. Art Valdez, Cervantes and his men were arrested.
According to Lopez, they recovered "corpses of mangroves and corals piled up as a foundation for the subdivision they were building."

Palawan!!! Reporting from this morning, our DENR team was able to penetrate Raphael Cervantes' 5-hectare operations inside a mangrove reserve in Puerto Princesa that's GOVERNMENT PROPERTY! With the NBI and PH Army, Usec Art has arrested Cervantes and his men for killing mangroves in an attempt to build a subdivision(?!!) of which proven guilty will cost him life in prison for robbing the government and the environment billions in pesos! Our team has removed installed fences and other structures found within the perimeter. Calling out PNP provincial director Ruben Sarmiento for resisting our operations and coddling Cervantes and his group! We found corpses of mangroves and corals piled up as a foundation for the subdivision they were building! This is unacceptable!!
