Duterte on media: Ang media kasi hindi nakikinig eh, kasi laging naghahanap ng mali

President Rodrigo Duterte once again lambasted the media over his declaration of martial law if the drug problems in the country would become 'virulent.'

During his speech in Nueva Ecija, Duterte said that every time he opens his mouth, the media also lookout to his statements.

“I would proclaim iyan (killing drug suspects). Nasa harap ko ang nationwide TV. Susunod sunod yang mga yan eh, kasi naghahanap ng mali. Hindi ako nagkakamali talagang papatayin kita. Kayo ang nagkamali, kayo ang patayin ko,” Duterte said.

According to Duterte, the media were so focused on his martial law statement. He said he's not stupid, he's wiser compare to them.

“Ang media kasi hindi nakikinig eh. Ang narinig lang nila yung martial law,” he said.

“Hindi ako stupido, mas bright tayo sa kanila. Sa totoo lang, kung mas bright sila sa akin, sila ngayon ang gumagamit nito,” Duterte added.

Duterte said that he will be the one to decide on the declaration of martial law, not Supreme Court nor Congress will decide.

“Who decides now? Ang Supreme Court sabi huwag. Sabi ng Congress yes. Who decides? The sitting president. So ako,” the president said.

“Itong newspaper, ‘Duterte martial law’. I will not declare martial law, at kung mag-declare ako ng martial law, di ako mag-ingay,’ Duterte said.

“Basta ako, it is not found in the Constitution. It is not written there. But if I feel as a president that [if] I have to preserve my country, I will declare martial law,” he added.

Meanwhile, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar also accused the media of misreporting Duterte's remarks.
