Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Saturday said he will personally ask President Rodrigo Duterte if he has become a burden to him.
"I will ask the President kung pabigat ako sa kanya," Dela Rosa said in an ambush interview at the Quezon City Police District's headquaters in Camp Karingal.
"Hindi na po kailangan ng pormal pormal dyan [resignation letter]. Kausapin ko lang po siya," Dela Rosa added.
In his speech at Camp Karingal, he said that he "may fall down this time, but I will get up and fight."
He said that despite calls for his resignation following his admission that South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo was killed inside Camp Crame, the PNP's national headquarters.
The South Korean businessman was allegedly a victim of "tokhang for ransom."
Dela Rosa had said that those calling for his resignation should ask Duterte to sack him.
Duterte's political ally, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Friday called on Dela Rosa to resign.
Alvarez said Dela Rosa "should immediately resign as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to save President Rodrigo Duterte from further embarrassment and restore respect to the Office of the PNP Chief."
"The commission of a heinous crime right in his very nose is not only an insult but a clear indication that he has lost the respect of his people," he added.
