Sen. Lacson: "May pinagtatakpan ba na mas malaking tao sa pagpatay kay Mayor Espinosa at sa abogado niya?”

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Sunday said that perhaps there's really someone behind the killings of
 Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa.

Lacson wondered if there's a big personality who wants to silent Espinosa.

“There’s more than meets the eye in the killing of Mayor Espinosa
May pinagtatakpan ba na mas malaking tao sa pagpatay kay Mayor Espinosa at sa abogado niya?” Lacson said in a radio interview with DWIZ.

According to the report, Lacson thinks that Espinosa was really the target and he also said it's a big challenge
to the credibility of the PNP to determine the suspect.

“I think that incident is the biggest challenge to the credibility of the PNP (Philippine National Police) that could affect even the other operations involving drug suspects killed under similarly suspicious circumstances,” Lacson said, adding that he also wanted to know whether there was “possible cover-up for bigger personalities as a motive.”

Ramon Espinosa, brother of former mayor said they don't believe his brother has a gun inside the jail and they believed someone was behind.

“We believe that my brother was intentionally killed,” Ramon said. “The claim that he tried to engage the police in a shootout was unbelievable.”

Local police commander Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido said Espinosa's death might weaken the cases filed against those suspects.

“I wanted him to live because he could have helped us a lot in our campaign against illegal drugs. He knew how vast the operations of his son was," Espenido said.

"He is dead. We no longer have a witness who has firsthand knowledge of the illegal drug operations of his son. All our efforts amount to nothing now,” he added.
