DOJ Sec. Aguirre to present Jaybee Sebastian in next hearing

New Bilibid Prison (NBP) detainee Jaybee Sebastian will attend the next House hearing on October 5, according to Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.

Aguirre affirmed it and said that no subpoena has been issued to Sebastian because it is a compulsory process.

"Kung iyong sabi mo to forcibly bring him? 'Pag ayaw niyang sumunod ay malamang iyon ang gawin sa kanya. Kasi compulsary process iyon eh," Aguirre said in his radio interview.
Aguirre said that Jaybee Sebastian is required to attend the hearing since he's a detainee his political rights is suspended.

“Compulsary process iyon e. Actually hindi subpoena e. Ako ang nire-require as head of the Department of Justice (DOJ) kaya parang kasi suspended ang political rights ng ilang prisoners eh so wala silang karapatan na tanggihan ang mga iyon," Aguirre said.

According to the inmates who already give their testimony, they said that Sebastian collects money to his fellow inmates to fund the candidacy of Sen. Leila De Lima last May 2016 election.

Aguirre said that Sebastian is not a DOJ witness, that's why he has no idea what testimony Sebastian will give.He added that it may or may not contribute to the allegations of De Lima.

Supposed to be the next hearing is on Sept. 27 to 30 but postponed it because President Duterte asks him to join his trip in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Aguirre said the Joenel Sanchez is expected to attend the next hearing. Sanchez was the security aid and alleged bagman of De Lima.

Aguirre said he will not speculate on what Sebastian will say, it's either he will tell the truth or he will lie.

"Kung ako ay papayagan na magtanong eh, sa cross-examination eh palagay ko makaka-contritube tayo kahit papaano para mapalabas ang katotohanan kay Sebastian," Aguirre said.

"Sa assessment ng lahat, including the leadership of the committee, ay malinaw na. Walang um-oppose na walang drugs dyan, walang um-oppose na nagsasabi na walang mga payola pero hindi ibig sabihin na proven na," Aguirre added.
