President Duterte won't be the next Marcos: "Wala ako balak maging diktador. Abugado ako"
During his speech at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) as he welcomed repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Saudi Arabia, Duterte said he won't declare martial law amid to the intense war against illegal drugs.
"Wala ako balak maging diktador. Abugado ako. Ang nanay ko Yellow Friday [Movement] sa Davao. Sabihin nila maging Marcos [ako], far from it," Duterte said.
"I am just doing my duty or else I will compromise [the] next generation," Duterte added.
“We do not enjoy killing people. I do not enjoy this war. I hate to sign documents that would procure things that would just kill citizens,” Duterte said.
“Hindi ito ang larong gusto ko. Maghanap ako ng, gusto ko ng ibang kalaban. Huwag yung Pilipino,” he added.Duterte promised to suppress drugs within 3-6 months. Last time, he was mentioned about the martial law and some people reacted because they feared it will happen again under his leadership.
The palace stated that it was just an exaggeration to emphasize the gravity of the drug menace in th country.
