PNP and soldiers to get additional 5,000 allowance by September | Watch

Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno on Wednesday announced that the Philippine National Police (PNP) and soldiers will receive an additional allowance of P5,000 by September.

President Duterte didn't forget the promise he made, to increase the salary of the policemen and soldiers. Actually, Secretary Diokno affirmed it that in January 2018, their salary will double.

“Pwede na itaga sa bato [Mark my words],” Diokno said in his interview in ABS-CBN.

“Nagsubmit na ako sa kanya ng report, draft EO to effect the adjustment. Uumpisahan natin yan before the end of the year, baka September magkaroon na ng across the board increase,” Diokno added.

Also, starting next month all uniformed personnel will receive 20 kilos of rice every month.

In his speech in the 115th police service anniversary celebration at Camp Crame, Duterte reiterated his promise that there will be a salary increase of the police, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) twice as their current salary starting December.

“Davao City progressed tremendously because of the police and military who gave me their full support, so in return, what can I do for you?” Duterte said.

“My dear policemen, police officers, I have increased your salaries. You’re the first—double your present salary by December, and I included the AFP and the PDEA. (You’re) working and gambling with your lives facing criminals,” he said.

Duterte said that the salary hike was to discourage them from engaging in corrupt activities and bribery.
