According to the report, the said project will be funded by the Department os Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)while the Department of Education (DepEd) will provide some 583 teachers.
DepEd Asec. for IP Education Butch Rufino said this is the first time that the government will be building new schools for the Lumad school children “in one go.”
The DepEd chief said the CARAGA will have the newest schools with 75 and 198 teachers, followed by the Davao Region with 69 and 147 teachers, Soccsksargen with 50 and 135 teachers, Northern Mindanao with 39 and 82 teachers, and Zamboanga Peninsula with 18 and 21 teachers.
The design of the proposed buildings will be in accordance with the preference and culture of different IP communities.
According to Regional IP focal person Audrie Perez, this move would greatly help Lumads in the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas as they will no longer have to travel longer just to go to school to achieve quality education.
Briones said that this plan to build new schools for the Lumad is President Duterte's commitment.
