Former Justice Sec. and now Senator Leila de Lima reacts to ‘funny face’ by the President Rodrigo Duterte after their handshake during his First State of the Nation Address on Monday.
“Siyempre nagulat ako… ‘di ko naman siya napansin na talagang halos tumitingin. Medyo sumulyap lang,” De Limat told reporters. “And then I didn’t know also how to show my face so ngumiti na lang ako nang konti and then lumagpas na nga siya nang kaunti. Bumalik (siua) at he extended his hand.”
“Nag-make face siya. Childish smirk. Kasama lang yan sa kapilyuhan niya, sabi ng mga fellow Bedans pilyo talaga yan noon pa,” senator said.
It can be recalled that Sen. Leila de Lima is one of the biggest critics of President Duterte for his alleged extra-judicial killings in Davao City.
The Senator said it was a merely “warm, friendly” gesture by the President as a kind of ice breaker for the two of them.
“I think he just also wants to show the people na kahit nagkakadiprensya kami on certain issues, as a matter of principle also, I have my own belief, I have my own advocacies, he has his own principles, beliefs, and advocacies for governance pero walang personalan.” she said.
