Environment Sec. Lopez to Chinese miners: lumayas kayo sa Pilipinas
Environment Secretary Gina Lopez on Saturday warned Chinese mining operators that they should 'go home' for violating the environmental laws in the country.
Lopez has suspended five mining companies since the start of her office, including the four mining companies in Zambales and known to export to the Chinese mainland.
“If they don’t get their act together, I’ll tell them, go home,” Lopez said in her interview in DZMM.
“Our people’s well-being is more important than the money you make. If you want your money, go home bye bye,” she said.
She said that Chinese are more concerned about making money than conserving the environment.
“They’ve become very materialistic. All they think of is money and they’re bullies, and its not good at all,” she said.
Berong Nickel Corporation in Quezon, Palawan have been suspended because it proved by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) that they threw nearly 1,200 metric tons of mine tailings into waters of the province .
Lopez also emphasized its rigorous scrutiny of the mining contracts in the country especially those owned by foreign companies.
