DepEd wants regular drug testing in high school students


The Department of Education (DepEd) is investigating the likelihood of leading consistent drug tests on open and private secondary school students in light of the Duterte administration in eradicating illegal drugs in the country.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Jesus Mateo said in his interview in GMA, that the endeavor would require major greater subsidizing and was limited to random drug tests in schools. 


Mateo additionally said they would enhance the educational programs on the perils of medication use, occurrences of which were seen among a few students from Grade 7 onwards. 

Some high school students even before are engaging in illegal drugs. 

"May mga report na ganoon, mangilan ngilan. Ang na-observe ko lang dito sa mga matataong lugar 'yun (naitatala)," the DepEd official said.

Mateo also said that battling the medication hazard was everybody's obligation, and ought not be left to educators and cops alone.

"Ang drugs kasi, hindi naman 'yun usapin ng edukasyon. Usapin 'yan ang buong lipunan," he said.
