President-elect Duterte eyed cable cars to ease Metro traffic

According to incoming transportation secretary Arthur Tugade, President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is seriously planning in installing cable cars in Metro Manila to ease the traffic jams in the city.

“Pag nagdagdag tayo ng kalsada at nag-construct tayo, lalong makaka-traffic. Kung gusto mo ng additional capacity, pumunta ka sa itaas,” Tugade said.

In Tugade's interview in ANC, he said it would be a 35-seater cable cars for commuters.

Tugade said the project could be implemented first in the Pasig and Makati business districts. He said no definite concept yet, but he already talked to the manufacturer company. Same with the manufacturer of Bolivia.

Tugade said he suggest to the designer that cable cars is not only for transportation but also for 'scenic' purposes.

"Suffice to say, for the moment, that is seriously being looked into," he said.

Tugade said some suggested it should reached 5-10 kilometers, but also considering for means of long term transportation, it might start from Sta. Rosa to Makati with in between station.

Duterte will ask Congress for special powers to solve the crisis in traffic congestion.
