No foods can cause UTI

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is the most common disease among women than men. Why? because women is shorter urethra than men. Bacteria is the main cause of urinary tract infections, or UTIs, according to the American Urological Association.

Urinary tract infections typically occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract through the urethra and begin to multiply in the bladder. Foods is not the main cause of having UTIs, it's the bacteria. 

Bacteria actually lives in your digestive system, called E. coli and then it go down and stay in the kidney. Certain bacteria feed in sugar foods. That's why eating sweets and carbonated drinks will help the bacteria to grow and multiply. That's why, we are encouraged to increase our fluids intake to help flush out the bacteria.
There are lots of risk factors that can contribute to a UTI, such as using a lot of antibiotics, sex with multiple partners, bacteria from bowels and waiting too long to urinate. There are also some foods that can exacerbate UTIs and should be avoided.

Here are some common symptoms  of UTI:
  • Fever 
  • Pain when urinating
  • Blood in urine or Cloudy urine
  • Back pain

UTI develops when part of tract becomes infected by bacteria.

Common Causes of UTI:

  • Sexual intercourse  
  • Poor hygiene 
  • Diabetes 
  • Using contraceptive
  • Pregnancy
  • Menopause
  • Use of tampons 

Now a days, not all Filipino highly educated about health, they loved to follow their own old culture. According to research 70% of Filipinos knew that the causes of UTI is found in the food like Soft drinks or any sweet foods. There are certain bacteria that use sugar as their foods.

Soft drinks or sweet foods can aggravate the disease. Why? Soft drinks is more acidic and it can irritate your urinary system, Sweet foods is nothing to worry but too much of sweet will worsen the infection because bacteria easily live in a sweet area.

Here are some Foods you shouldn't eat when you have UTI

1. Coffee Caffeine in particular is known to cause bladder irritation and worsen

2. Alcohol beverages can irritate the bladder

3. Caffeinated Sodas - could aggravate symptoms in someone with a UTI

4. Acidic Fruits - such as tomatoes, pineapple, lemons and limes, oranges and grapefruits are considered acidic foods and can irritate the bladder.

6. Spicy Foods

Always remember: Drink plenty of fluids. The usual 6 to 8 glasses of water will do, but cut back on caffeine and alcohol when you have UTI because it can irritate the bladder. Heed the call of nature and urinate when you first feel the urge.

Seek medical attention if you experience any of the symptoms of a UTI, as antibiotic treatment may be required to clear up infection and prevent complications.
