Globe fires up first cell site to 700MHz, speed reach up to 100mbps

Recently, Globe Telecom has been acquired the part of San Miguel Corporation telecommunications business and now there first cell site has been fired up to 700 megahertz(MHz).

On Monday, the company tested its impact on internet speed, through Ookla's Speedtest application. Globe and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) observed the speed test.

Several tests have been conducted and it showed that it reach 66 megabytes per second (mbps) to 100 mbps near the cell site.

As of now, those who have access to this 700 mhz frequency are those within the 2.2-km radius from the cell tower and using phones that support band 28. These phones are the most recently released ones, including Samsung S6, S7, J7, J5 and some Huawei phones.

Globe Senior Vice President Joel Agustin said they will have to download an updated iOS 10 to be able to access the 700 mhz frequency for Iphone users.

According to the test conducted, the non- LTE phones will still experience in improving the internet speed from the usual 10 to 15 mbps to 15 to 27 mbps.
