Duterte admin lengthen passport validity to 10 years

Duterte administration is planning to extend the validity of passports in the country. From 5 years, they want to make it 10 long years its validity.

Incoming Budget Secretary Dr. Benjamin Diokno compared passport validity of USA, which is 10 years and expressed the need of adjustment to it

Netizens showed their approval to it because it will lessen their expenses and burden, especially the OFWs. It can also save their time in renewing passport.

According to, DFA Assistant Secretary Frank Cimafranca said that amending the passport law would also increase the cost.

Duterte admin also aims to extend the validity of NBI clearance and driver's license (3-5 years) and to eliminate the expiration of NSO-issued birth certificate, which is only valid for 6 months at the present.
